History of Carworks:
From Small Car Works to Carworks and Beyond -
In 1979, John Schier opened John’s Small Car Works, a two-bay shop dedicated to air-cooled Volkswagens. A year later, the business moved to its now-familiar corner in Lee, New Hampshire, where John rented two bays from Dick Fernald, owner of Fernald’s Garage.
By 1986, John purchased the main building, expanding his work beyond Volkswagens to serve a growing customer base of all makes and models. With that evolution came a new name Carworks and a new era of honest, high-quality auto repair that quickly became a cornerstone of the community.
In 2009, Carworks underwent a major renovation, adding modern equipment and five full-height lifts while keeping the same dedication to integrity, quality, and personalized service that John and Linda built their reputation on.
After 42 years on the corner, John and Linda Schier decided it was time to pass the torch. As they shared in their retirement message:
“We are thrilled to announce that after 42 years on the corner we are retiring from Carworks! But have no fear, your driving needs are in good hands as long-time Carworks veteran, Adam Meyrowitz, takes the wheel and carries on the tradition of expert and honest auto service.”
“New Energy. Same Spirit.”
A New Chapter:
Adam Meyrowitz’s journey with Carworks began in 2011. After vocational training in high school and over 17 years of experience in the automotive industry, Adam joined the Carworks team and quickly became known for his technical skill, integrity, and genuine care for his customers.
In 2019, Adam opened his own small garage, Ad’s Automotive Repair, where he handled everything from sourcing parts to making repairs and building trust one customer at a time. When John and Linda began planning their retirement, Adam and his wife Shelby - both proud New Hampshire locals - knew this was the opportunity they had been working toward.
Together, Adam and Shelby are carrying on the Carworks tradition with new energy, local pride, and the same trusted spirit that the shop was built on. As lifelong members of the community, they’re honored to serve their neighbors, friends, and families - keeping multiple generations safely on the road with the honesty and care that Carworks has stood for since 1979.
Carworks continues to be more than just an auto shop; it’s a place where community, craftsmanship, and connection come together - a cornerstone of trust for drivers near and far.
